Now We Have Light

Now We Have Light

Now We Have Light, a double album of over eighty minutes, has to be one of the most complicated, drawn-out projects I have ever worked on.

The album took over ten years to complete. From the first inklings of an idea through the gestation of the album's narrative and into its final recorded form, it kept the band busy in one way or another for all those years!

Several songs were in live sets and road tested before they saw the studio, others were almost new at the time of recording, and revisions kept coming almost to the mastering day itself!

Most of the recording happened in a week-long session averaging about three songs per day. A couple of tracks a day sounds manageable, but when you're playing a Sanguine Hum song, it's a marathon. We ended each day exhausted and mentally fried but relieved that we were closer to the finish line.

Months later, with the recording finished, we gathered in a pub in Beaconsfield to see the first glimpses of the sleeve design. The cover by Meriel Waissmann knocked our socks off, and the ambition for the booklet was equally impressive.

Now We Have Light was released as a double CD with a 16-page booklet and a making of DVD on Esoteric Antenna records, a Cherry Red Lable on 23 Feb 2015.

If Diving Bell and Weight of the World were more than worthy predecessors that began the delivery of promises from a group of players who have been working towards this for more than a decade, then Now We Have Light is the first album—a masterpiece, even—to completely deliver on those promises, as well as being a welcome harbinger of even better things to come.
