Songs For Days

Songs For Days

Songs For Days is where Sangine Hum began, although we haven't always been called Sanguine Hum. Before Sanguine Hum, we were Joff Winks Band, the name we used after I signed my first publishing deal.

Although we had a different name, the band was effectively the same, and Songs For Days was the first full-length album we recorded.

We tracked the album with Richard Haines at Dungeon Studios Oxford. We'd worked with Richard before on the Antique Seeking Nuns EP’s and were comfortable collaborating with him, and the sessions were a lot of fun. My brother came and spent time with us whilst we recorded, and we generally had a blast hidden away in the Oxfordshire hills.

After finishing the studio recording, I laid down the vocals and other parts, like harmonium and guitar overdubs, at my home studio, and the album turned into something we were all tremendously proud of.

Although there was a general enjoyment around making the record, the relationship with my then-publisher was strained, and the album release and early gigs caused much anxiety.

Fortunately, the album was released a second time by Esoteric Antenna as What We Ask Is Where We Begin, which gave us the chance to present the album as originally intended. It also allowed us to release a second disk of outtakes and unreleased material from the Songs For Days recording sessions that otherwise would not have seen the light of day.
