Private Eye Casefiles: The Wooden Lady
Private Eye Case files: The Wooden Lady is a mobile VR game built for the Samsung Gear VR. The Wooden Lady is a prequel to the PC version of Private Eye, set 5 years before the events of the PC game.
Players once again adopt the role of Det. Sam Sutherland, as he investigates his first case, the apparent suicide of wealthy recluse Robert Rosentelle.
Using a diorama of the Rosentelle mansion, players investigate the crime scene looking for clues by spinning the house model around on a turntable to access the various rooms.
Getting the game to run on a mobile device required creative thinking and compromises. The score, however, was an area where the project could shine without hogging too many resources.
For this reason, music plays a prominent role in The Wooden Lady. And from the eerie soundscapes of the dark attic and basement scenes to the warm, inviting orchestral Jazz of the diorama investigation room, I wrote with immersion in mind. Game music in Virtual Reality can be even more effective than on traditional platforms, and in this game, I think the team used it very successfully.
Private Eye Casefiles: The Wooden Lady finished as a finalist in Oculus' Mobile VR Jam.
